Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson

Apr 6: Worship

We welcome diversity. We commit to undo racism and all other oppressions in ourselves, our church, and our community.

Worship and Other Announcements

The theme this month is Imagination. Our ability to imagine is a powerful, wonderous thing! We can imagine creating a better world. Our imaginations can also "run away with us" and bring fear, anxiety, and worry. How can we use our imaginations to fully develop our inherent goodness and possibility? To create a world we long to live in? To invent new things and make good trouble.
Join us this Sunday April 10, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., for a live streamed service in the Holland Sanctuary, or on our YouTube channel:

Please sign up below to join us in person on Sunday. Why are we still doing this? Because we can track people if we do have an outbreak. If you cannot sign up, and do not know if you will be feeling churchy on Sunday morning, just show up and sign the guest sheet that the ushers will provide.
Speaking of ushers, we need a few! Please contact Kate if you can help, or talk to her on Sunday at church. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Heart Space: Imagine, If You Will…
April 14 | 6:30pm-7:30pm | zoom
Evening Worship returns! In this dynamic, all-ages worship, we will experiment and play with different ways to be in a reverent community together. While we are still online, we’ll listen to music, listen to words, explore, and experiment. Rev. Matthew will join us for some creative play as he leads us in Laughter Yoga. If you’ve always wanted to try it, here’s your chance. Please join us!
The room opens at 6:15pm for some social time and a heart-felt worship to follow at 6:30pm.

Taino Full Moon Ritual
Our next SAZCUUPS gathering, via Zoom, is Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 6:15 PM MST (-0700 GMT, right now same as Pacific Daylight Time.)
This is an open/public ceremony that celebrates both the full moon and gratitude towards our ancestors and is based upon Taino/Boricua (indigenous Puerto Rican) spiritual principles and practice.
Our intergenerational celebration will include storytelling, healing music, and the opportunity to use a guided trance journey to discern how to further our spiritual projects.
Participants are encouraged to meditate upon their ongoing spiritual goals in weeks leading up to our ritual. Bring openness, respect, and refreshments.
Meeting will be on Zoom, Zoom ID 823 936 4868 or https://zoom.us/j/8239364868.
If you want to join us by telephone, find your local number at https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kcpYLuCRQi
Thank you! Hope to see you all there!
This will be the last plea, we promise.
Your Finance Committee is projecting a loss for the next fiscal year. This loss is caused by several factors:
  • Our pledge goal this year is $265,000and we are only 84% of the way there.
  • Most expenses are fixed and have increased because of inflation. And, the Arizona minimum wage has increased to $13 an hour, which we are obligated to pay to our part time staff by law.
  • We would like to give cost-of-living raises to our staff totaling $8,900.Most staff have not had any raises for the last five years. The one raise since then was for our custodian, Jesus, who got a raise to $15/hour four years ago. This raise totals $8,900, and is included in the loss.
  • We would like to give more to the UUA as part of our ongoing commitment to the larger denomination we are a part of.
If you are able, we would appreciate any one-time donations, pledge increases, or new pledges to help alleviate this loss. The Finance Committee will meet this Friday, April 8th. At that point, they will finalize a budget to send to the Board with the pledges and donations we have received. The Finance Committee is committed to sending the Board a balanced budget.
If you haven’t yet pledged, you can do that here. If you cannot access that pledge form, or if you would like to adjust your pledge, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. on the Pledge Team.

We are Open Folks/Folx!
What does that mean? It means that we can have up to 130 people in worship. It means that meetings may resume in person.(Please contact Mary to schedule: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..) It means no mask requirement outside. It even means social hour on the patio with coffee and snacks after church on Sunday's! We still require masks indoors because of the children who are still too young to receive vaccinations, and some of our immunocompromised members and friends.
Tuesday, the Board of Trustees sent out some important updates but some important links were missing, including our updated COVID policies. Please see the links below for more information.
A Special Message From Our Social Justice Team
According to a recent email from the national group Common Cause, “Far-right extremists in the Arizona legislature are pushing through a series of the most egregious anti-voter bills we’ve ever seen.” A new citizen’s initiative is aimed at stopping these laws, but we must get enough signatures in just over three months. There will be someone on the patio after church each Sunday with this important petition as well as the other petitions aligned with our UU principals. Please make signing all these petitions a priority and bring friends and family with you. Contact Margo Newhouse This email address is being protected from spambots. How to Give to the Church
You are asked to use our credit card service (which can be reached by the link or the On-line Giving button on our website), the very easy to use Text-to-Give (1-833-361-5796), or checks may be sent to the office. The on-line giving gives you the option to identify the contribution and use the memo line for checks. A tutorial video on Text-to-Give is here. After setting up an initial “profile” these options are easy to use for subsequent donations.
