Baja 4:

Stronger Together

Unitarian Universalists from across Southeast Arizona

Representing Unitarian Universalists across southeastern Arizona, we love beyond belief and find inspiration from a wide array of spiritual, religious, and secular sources. We come together as a Baja 4 because we know we are stronger together.

Celebrations and Special Days

It's always fun to celebrate and at the same time learn about cultures around the world. Here are a few things happening this month.
Unitarian Universalist:
National & Cultural:
For Fun and On the Fringe:
We Explore Commitment
The theme this month is Commitment and we are exploring what is important to us. It’s called what we are committed to. Here is what is important to us as Unitarian Universalists:
● We are committed to curiosity.
● We are committed to change.
● We are committed to conscience.
● We are committed to compassion.
Commitment means that we act on what we value and hold important. What does your faith encourage you to commit to? Let's explore!
Chalice Lighting
Rev. Peter Friedrichs
Enriched by our differences,
And joined together in our search for meaning,
We covenant with ourselves and each other:
To seek truth in a spirit of love;
To strive for justice; and
To serve others with a joyful heart
Find more chalice lightings here.
I am Enough
by Grace Byers (Author) and Keturah A. Bobo (Illustrator)
"This gorgeous, lyrical ode to loving who you are, respecting others, and being kind to one another comes from Empire actor and activist Grace Byers and talented newcomer artist Keturah A. Bobo."
"We are all here for a purpose. We are more than enough. We just need to believe it."
 Reflection Questions:
  • How did the story speak to you?
  • Which line stood out for them?
  • How does compassion for yourself and others show up in the story?
Scientific Experiments on Change
Who doesn't love an awesome science experiment? Be sure to do these activities in a place easily cleaned up.
1. Dish soap and pepper
2. Dish soap, milk, food coloring
3. Dish soap and cornstarch
Instructions are here: Dish Soap Science
Have Fun and share your results with us!
For Reflection
● What other surprising change have you experienced?
● Whose silly putty is the bounciest? stretchiest?
● When have you changed a little bit? A lot?
I Wonder
by Annaka Harris (Author) and John Rowe (Illustrator)
Eva takes a walk with her mother and encounters a range of mysteries: from gravity, to life cycles, to the vastness of the universe. She learns that it’s okay to say “I don’t know,” and she discovers that there are some things even adults don’t know—mysteries for everyone to wonder about together!
Reflection Questions
  • Have you wondered the same things as the little girl in the story? Where do you think gravity comes from? What do you think was here before the beginning of everything?
  • What mysteries do you wonder about the most?
  • Is it easy or hard for you to say “I don’t know?”
  • Do you have an older sibling who asks a lot of questions?
  • Who helps you wonder and ask questions?
PS. Have you joined the Parenting Club group on Facebook? Everyone in the Baja 4 is welcome!

Introducing, Open Patio Hours! Come enjoy some fellowship and community on the patio at UUCT. The focus of these events is mostly social with optional participatory activities and the occasional opportunity for causing some holy trouble. The Saturday event will be created with families with young kids in mind; UUCT will pay for playground monitors so the kids can play while parents and guardians take a break.
As soon as our policies allow, these gatherings will move indoors into Holland so that all can enjoy some time in our sacred space. Please wear a mask. All are welcome!
