The world begins at a kitchen table. No matter what, we must eat to live.
The gifts of earth are brought and prepared, set on the table. So it has been since creation, and it will go on.
We chase chickens or dogs away from it. Babies teethe at the corners. They scrape their knees under it.
It is here that children are given instructions on what it means to be human. We make men at it, we make women.
At this table we gossip, recall enemies and the ghosts of lovers.
Our dreams drink coffee with us as they put their arms around our children. They laugh with us at our poor falling-down selves and as we put ourselves back together once again at the table.
This table has been a house in the rain, an umbrella in the sun.
Wars have begun and ended at this table. It is a place to hide in the shadow of terror. A place to celebrate the terrible victory.
We have given birth on this table, and have prepared our parents for burial here.
At this table we sing with joy, with sorrow. We pray of suffering and remorse. We give thanks.
Perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table, while we are laughing and crying, eating of the last sweet bite.

How to Give to the Church
You are asked to use our credit card service (which can be reached by the link or the On-line Giving button on our website), the very easy to use Text-to-Give (1-833-361-5796), or checks sent to the office. The on-line giving gives you the option to identify the contribution and use the memo line for checks. A tutorial video on Text-to-Give is here. After setting up an initial “profile” these options are easy to use for subsequent donations.

It's A DRIVE-THRU BABY SHOWER and "DIAPER DRIVE" for our "Reverend Mother To Be, BETHANY"
Saturday, April 3, 2021, 10 am to 12 noon.
Gift Registry? No. Our humble Rev. opts for a DIAPER DRIVE (and wipes) to share some of the diapers with a local diaper bank.
If you wanted to give something extra, she would enjoy children's books, sippy cups, pacifiers, bibs, etc. No matter, just come and say hi and rejoice in a new baby UU. The rev. says, "no gifts are necessary, just come by and say hello".
Gender will be a surprise for all. Guess the weight for a prize or maybe win a door prize.

April 8, 2021: Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo, copyright 2019
Discussion leader: Carolyn C
Girl, Woman, Other is a magnificent portrayal of the intersections of identity and a moving and hopeful story of an interconnected group of Black British women that paints a vivid portrait of the state of contemporary Britain and looks back to the legacy of Britain’s colonial history in Africa and the Caribbean.”
May 13, 2021: There There by Tommy Orange, copyright 2018
There There, about Native Americans living in modern-day Oakland, was widely hailed as one of the best novels of 2018. An enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, Orange lives in California and teaches writing at the Institute of American Indian Arts. “There There” explores what it means to be an urban Indian. It features a wide cast of characters who are all Native American, but with varying degrees of connection to the culture.

Hello From the Church Office
Or should I say, Hello from Mary Wiese and Jesus Carrillo, your Congregational Administrator and Church Custodian.
Many of you know us, but some of you do not. Before COVID, we would see many of you on Sundays, and often chat. It has been more than a year now that we have seen some of you, and there are some new folks we do not even know. You do not see our faces during Sunday's online worship, but we are here, behind the scenes doing our best to take care of the daily business of the church.
Jesus has been here for almost 21 years. He is busy taking care of our 4 buildings on our 5 acre campus during the week. He may be cleaning one of our 9 toilets, repairing a broken doorknob, fixing a leaky pipe, replacing tiles, cleaning up trash, talking to someone who is homeless on the property, or mending the fence that surrounds our playground that the daycare center uses during the week. (He did all of this last week, and with a campus that is 70 years old, the the tasks never end!)
I have also been here for almost 21 years, although my role has changed during that time. I have been the Congregational Administrator for the last 12 years. I am the one who hosts the Sunday Worship chat on YouTube, I send out almost all of the weekly emails, I work with our church bookkeeper to make sure all of the bills are paid, I work with the daycare center that rents a portion of our campus, I manage the church calendar and the church database, and I work weekly with our No More Deaths ministry processing new employees, and and other business such as fundraising. I also correspond with many of you via email, phone, and a few Zoom meetings.
However, things are not the same as they were before COVID. Because of safety precautions, I no longer have office volunteers. Hopefully, maybe by fall, that will change. In the meantime, it has been a challenge to do everything that is necessary without the help of my volunteers, and, it gets lonely around here! We miss your smiling faces.
Until things are back to 'normal', what ever that may look like in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns about anything that involves Jesus or myself. One of the most difficult parts of the last year has been the break down in communication. We do not even see our co-workers very often, except in occasional online meetings. I am sure you are all feeling the disconnect as well.
Please, please take care of yourselves, and your families. Please contact me anytime, and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.
In faith and love,
Mary and Jesus
