What's Up With SAZCUUPS November 2020?

What is Waning? We enjoyed a Stitch and Witch class with crafters of all kinds and had a great time! Our second Sunday classes are shaping up to be really awesome for the rest of the church year, keep an eye on this spot for future offerings!

Our Second Sunday class in candle magic will be taught by Leigh Mileur, On Sunday, November 8th at 12:15pm.

Leigh has been a practicing pagan since 2009 and they currently use the label “Norse-leaning eclectic”. They are a member of SAZCUUPS since 2017 and of the Heathen organization The Troth since April of this year. This class was previously offered in-person in October 2019 and will use Zoom in a participatory manner, though everyone is welcome to use pen and paper if they are more comfortable. In this beginners' class, Leigh will teach a candle magic method that uses a sigil made from letters in the English alphabet, which will be taken from a phrase of intent each participant will create. They will briefly cover positive vs. negative statements in magic, visualization, charging a candle, and the concept of dressing or anointing a candle. They will mention a few other methods of sigil creation as well. When you have completed this class, you will know how to use this method to create sigilized candles on your own, and Leigh will make available (through email or Facebook) a list of resources for further learning, as well as suggestions of local stores to purchase candles and holders.Necessary supplies:a writing implement and paper will be very helpful for sigil design. We will also be using the "annotate" tools in Zoom to draw for those who are comfortable. A method of taking notes would be recommended.

Social Justice Updates

Share the Plate

Our Share the Plate donation for the second half ofOctoberwill go toMass Liberation Arizona.

Our Project was launched in 2019 to bolster the growing movement to end mass incarceration and abolish the criminal legal system as we know it. Our vision is to build a bigger movement and to help change the political conditions necessary to make community liberation possible for BIPOC. We are working toward this by focusing on the grassroots organizing capacity of directly-impacted people and their loved ones, including people who are formerly incarcerated, have a felony conviction, have a sentence of probation or parole or whose lives have been directly affected by the criminal legal system in other ways. Our programs of support include skills training, coaching, political education, organizing & electoral strategy and a fellowship program for new and emerging directly-impacted organizers.

Cafe Justo Coffee
Sales - and delivery - of Café Justo coffee are continuing. This Social Justice Council (SJC) project benefits small-scale, shade-grown organic coffee growers in Chiapas, Mexico. Please contact Sue Watts for more information:This email address is being protected from spambots. The Social Action Committee is sponsoring vigils in front of our church each Tuesday morning from 8:00 to 9:00. We have dozens of signs covering current topics which align with UU Principles. We also encourage the sincerity and creativity of home-made signs. We are supporting causes UUs believe in and advertising the values of our congregation. Please don a mask and join us.

The Social Justice Council, chaired by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 9am.  All are invited to participate.

RE at Home Resources
Are you interested in "doing church" at home? I am collecting resources for at home religious education both on the Parenting Club facebook page and in a google drive. The folder is available to everyone! You'll find activities that take 5 minutes and one that take 5 days, so you're in control of how much time you spend on RE.
