Facilities Updates
The Facilities Team is looking for a lawyer to consult with regarding contracts. We have entered into contracts with various providers and have ended up in situations we are not satisfied with. Are you a lawyer? Can you help us? Do you know a good lawyer who might spare some time to teach us what our rights are and what avenues we have to settle disputes? Please reply to Margot Garcia at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Thank you.

Social Justice Updates

Share the Plate

Our Share the Plate donation for the first half of September will go toReveille Men's Chorus, of Tucson.

Reveille is committed to promoting the acceptance of LGBTQI people through music. They are an internationally recognized men's chorus dedicated to musical excellence, and perform worldwide to promote human rights, diversity and world free of AIDS. In addition, Reveille stands in solidarity with the Black Lives matter movement.

Without the usual concert performances due to the pandemic, Reveille is challenged to pay their operating expenses, such as staff salaries, and royalties for music.

Reveille will be offering a free virtual concert in October in partnership with the "Florence Project" and "The Dunbar Center" highlighting the missions of these organizations. Another virtual holiday concert will be offered in December.

Please help us raise funds for this worthwhile non-profit.

Cafe Justo Coffee
Sales - and delivery - of Café Justo coffee are continuing. This Social Justice Council (SJC) project benefits small-scale, shade-grown organic coffee growers in Chiapas, Mexico. Please contact Sue Watts for more information:This email address is being protected from spambots. Beloved Conversations: Meditations on Race and Ethnicity:
Register now until September 20th
Beloved Conversations curriculum developers at Meadville Lombard Theological School have responded to the needs to learn how race and ethnicity shape our personal and collective lives and practices, in a virtual format. UUJAZ has partnered with Meadville to offer a 20% discount for AZ UU participants, and scholarships for anyone who needs one.

The first phase Within is open for registration now, and focuses on the internal work that each of us needs to do as we engage racial justice. This work is different for White folks and for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) and will be done entirely in race-based caucuses.

Within work will include individual Lessons, using videos, music, and readings, accompanied by reflection prompts and suggested conversations with Critical Friends chosen by the participants; bi-weekly small group conversations in a Learning Pod; and larger, monthly, facilitated Meaning-Making Sessions on Zoom.

We hope you join us to embody racial justice as a spiritual practice, to heal the impact of racism on our lives, in order to get free together.

UUJAZ News

It is September, the month we traditionally welcome folks "back" from the summer, and begin our program year at some of our congregations. This year is different. How will we use this virtual time to connect with each other, and ourselves, in our anti-racism, anti-oppression work? As November elections creep closer, how do our UU values fall when it comes to candidates? The choices we make, now, in how to invest our time, will determine how the racial uprising ends, how the elections are decided, and whether we Side With Love in our actions and not just our words.

RE at Home Resources
Are you interested in "doing church" at home? I am collecting resources for at home religious education both on the Parenting Club facebook page and in a google drive. The folder is available to everyone! You'll find activities that take 5 minutes and one that take 5 days, so you're in control of how much time you spend on RE.
