Social Justice Updates

Share the Plate

June
The June Share the Plate recipient will beEmerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse. That recipient was approved by the SJC. Emerge! has seen a COVID-19-related surge in demand for its services.

July through December
In July 2020, UUCT will go from 1 Share the Plate per month to 2 per month, a change approved by the SJC and UUCT board of directors. However, the SJC approved a 6-month plan beginning in July and will adopt a new plan later for the second half of the fiscal year.

The 2 Share the Plate collections each of these 6 months will be given to 1 nonprofit recipient. This approach is intended to address heightened needs of Share the Plate recipients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How to donate
Checks with “Share the Plate” in the memo line can be mailed to the office.Online donations can be made using our credit card service:credit card service On that donation page you will find an option for Share the Plate.

UUA and UUJAZ News
Justice in the Time of Pandemic
Have you taken action for justice in the past few months? At UUJAZ, we are looking to get an idea of our participation in recent asks from congregations, partner organizations, and UUJAZ emails. Love Resists, UU the Vote, and UU World magazine asked us for stories; you can inspire other UUs! Please take our survey by June 13th. If you haven't had a chance to participate in any of these actions, links are provided for you to participate now if you'd like... and then check them off the list!

Email Scams

Several UUCT members have received a SCAM email that is supposedly from Rev. Bethany asking for the member to buy a gift card for the homeless. Rev. Bethany will never ask for money to directly help her or for a cause not sponsored by the church.

The hallmark of a SCAM is an element of urgency; take time to think and cross-check any email. DO NOT ACT ON AN EMAIL/TEXT REQUEST FOR MONEY FROM REV. BETHANY OR OTHER CHURCH PERSON. You may forward the email toThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.if you are in doubt about the authenticity of any email related to the church.

Thank you,
Your UUCT Staff, Board of Trustees, and Finance Committee.

The Sonoran Desert is dry!

So are UUCT's potted plants. We're seeking church members to help water our plants. It's cool at 7AM. I will meet you to turn on the spigot which has had its handle removed, while we've been closed, to prevent people from wasting water. RE at Home Resources
Are you interested in "doing church" at home? I am collecting resources for at home religious education both on the Parenting Club facebook page and in a google drive. The folder is available to everyone! You'll find activities that take 5 minutes and one that take 5 days, so you're in control of how much time you spend on RE.
