We Forgive Each Other

The second step of forgiveness is seeking forgiveness from the person or thing we have harmed. This week, we will lean into the Jewish practice of seeking forgiveness as a way to understand our own forgiveness practices.

Acoustic Worship: Heart Space
Thursday, October 24 | 5:30-8:00pm | Holland
There is a center in the body where love and spirit are joined, and that center is heart. It is your heart that aches or fills with love, that feels compassion and trust, and that seems empty or overflowing. In our first experimental "Acoustic Worship" this year, we will explore ways that our hearts can fill when we practice intentional loving kindness with each other. "Unconditional love is not so much about how we receive and endure each other, as it is about the deep vow to never, under any condition, stop bringing the flawed truth of who we are to each other" (Mark Nepo). We hope to see your whole self there.

5:30pm --Goddard opens for anyone why wants to eat dinner together.
6:00pm --service begins
6:45pm --bring some potluck light snacks for socializing and a deeper discussion of the worship topic. We'll bring out the fire pit!

Opportunity Sunday

Meet representatives of 20 Tucson nonprofit social justice organizations following services on Oct. 20 in Goddard Hall.

You might even decide to nominate one or more of these organizations to be a recipient of a Share the Plate collection next year.

To make room for the organizations, many of our round tables and chairs will be positioned on the patio so those enjoying lunch can take advantage of the balmy October weather.

2nd Hour
…Deepen your faith …Strengthen connections …Serve your community

October 13 | 12:30-1:30pm | UUCT
In this year of experimentation, 2nd Hour is one way that Rev. Bethany and I want to answer the call to offer more opportunities for adults to learn, grow, and deepen in understanding, community, connection, and service.

From 12:30-1:30pm, one Sunday per month, we will offer opportunities for people of all ages to participate in community-led activities or classes. Offerings will vary every month, so watch the weekly email next week for details including descriptions and age restrictions.

This month's workshops are:

  • Drum circle on the Patio. All Ages.Join Brian Moon on the patio for an impromptu drum circle. No percussion experience is necessary, and drums will be provided, but you may bring your own.
  • Sexuality and Gender Diversity in Awareness Room. 18+.This week, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments on the cases of three LGBT employees, two gay men and a transgender woman, who claim they were fired because of their identities. At issue was the meaning of Title 7 of the Civil Rights Act, which forbids discrimination because of “sex” but does not specifically refer to gender identity or sexual orientation. What is the difference between all these terms? Come explore with us and the Gender Unicorn! Ages 18+. Hosted by Adult OWL facilitators Sam Meyer and Marion Leonard
  • Baha'i video in Servetus. All Ages.In honor of the Baha’I Twin Holy Birthdays of the Báb (October 20, 1819) and of Bahá’u’lláh (November 12, 1817), Rev. Bethany will be hosting a video viewing and discussion of the Baha’i Faith. For Baha’is, these Holy Days are celebrated on the first and second days of the eighth lunar month which may fall as early as October 20-21. They are two of the nine holy days of the year when work is suspended and children are exempted from attending school. We’ll explore more about how to support our Baha’i neighbors.
  • Sukkah Building in Blackwell. All Ages. After the more somber holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Sukkot is enjoyed by families as the Jewish holiday of unbridled happiness, “z’man simhateinu” (the time of our joy). Come explore with us the history of this Holy Day and make a mini sukkah of your own.

Children are welcome in classes indicated by “all ages" and those with a age indicated, but childcare is available for those under 10 years.
