2nd Hour is what you've been looking for!
In this year of experimentation, 2nd Hour is one way that Rev. Bethany and I want to answer the call to offer more opportunities for adults to learn, grow, and deepen in understanding, community, connection, and service.

From12:30-1:30pm, one Sunday per month, we will offer opportunities for people of all ages to participate in community-led activities or classes. Offerings will vary every month, so watch the weekly email for details including descriptions and age restrictions.

Date: Sept. 8, 2019
Time: 12:30-1:30pm.
Topics: This month we are teaching:

  • Small Group Ministryled by Rev. Bethany. Adults 18+ only. Blackwell room. This year at UUCT, we will be starting a new round of Small Group Ministries. These are groups of 10-12 people meet regularly, usually monthly, to reflect on and discuss significant spiritual and life topics. These groups will meet monthly for the 2019-20 church year and then reform to create new groups. Come learn more about Small Group Ministry if you are interested in joining a group this year.

  • Sing and Learn Songsled by Brian Moon. All Ages. Holland. Come to this 2nd Hour workshop to learn what an anchor song is, how and why we use them in worship, and to be introduced to the six anchor songs of 2019-2020 being used at UUCT!

  • Building the World We Dream About: Anti-Racism in Racist Timesled by Rev. Karla Brockie. Everyone ages 11+. Awareness room.As Unitarian Universalists, we hope developing antiracist, anti-oppressive, and multicultural habits and skills will lead us to build the multicultural world of beloved community we dream about. Building the World We Dream About is a Unitarian Universalist program that seeks to interrupt the workings of racism and transform how people from different racial/ethnic groups understand and relate to one another. This class will be a brief introduction to the larger work but is not required to participate in the Building The World Study Group.

  • Hospitality & Welcome: 101led by Steve Kraynak. Everyone ages 11+. Servetus.Unitarian Universalism has a saving message for the world. In 1999 there were 154,459 of us; in 2019 there are 154,704. That’s an increase of 245 total members in the United States in 20 years – or 0.24 new member per congregation. How can we get our saving message out to more people? Let’s brainstorm some possibilities at 2nd Hour on Sunday, September 8 in Servetus. "Fun" Fact: On October 27, 1553 Michael Servetus, one of our forebears, was burnt alive atop a pyre of his own books at the edge of Geneva, Switzerland for spreading and preaching Non-trinitarianism.
