Rev. Bethany Russell-LoweRev. Bethany Russell-Lowe, our settled parish minister, is on parental leave until August.  During this period her ministry is under the care of our Parental Leave Minister Rylee Uhrich (This email address is being protected from spambots. Rev. Bethany (she/her) became the settled minister at UUCT in August 2018. Rev. Bethany was raised Unitarian Universalist in a historic congregation in Lexington, Massachusetts. She continues to find her spiritual home in Unitarian Universalism because this is a faith that grows with us throughout our lives. Theologically, Rev. Bethany is a Universalist, meaning that she believes that all people are born with goodness in them, and that they are capable of acting on that goodness throughout their lives. She also believes that we humans are responsible for co-creating moments and spaces of heaven here on Earth.

Rev. Bethany moved to Tucson from Syracuse, New York where she completed her collaborative ministerial internship at the First UU Society of Syracuse and May Memorial UU Congregation. While is Upstate New York, she also served as the minister at the small but mighty UU Church of Cortland, New York. Prior to that, she was the Social Action and Youth Programs Director at First Parish in Concord, Massachusetts, a large, historic congregation. In December 2016, she earned her Master of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, Massachusetts.

Rev. Bethany was the recipient of the Skinner Sermon Award in 2020 for her sermon “Humanitarian Aid is Never a Crime” reflecting on Dr. Scott Warren acquittal in federal court in November 2019, initially preached at UUCT. You can read the winning sermon here.

Rev. Bethany lives in midtown Tucson with her husband, one dog, two cats, and four chickens. She and her husband are due to welcome their first child in the spring of 2021. They are looking forward to raising their child in the warmth and love of the UUCT community.
